The holiday weekend has come and gone and we had another very successful 4th of July camp in Steamboat Springs. It was great to be in front of the hometown crowd again which was bigger than ever. It’s a really cool atmosphere to be able to show our sport to so many people that are in town for the weekend and may not get a chance to see it that often. The SSWSC did a great job of hosting all the events and giving so many athletes the chance to come together for a week of training and competitions.
Our team used the camp to get some training time on the small hill in Steamboat and mix things up after a few weeks of jumping the K90 and K120 back in Park City. We also did our usual races during this camp which included the 8km hill climb time trial up Fish Creek, and the 3km nordic combined sprint on main street right before the parade.
We were able to check in and see where everyone’s times were compared to past years and most of us posted our fastest times ever so we can see all that hard work from the spring starting to pay off.
Our new team was announced and we are excited to have a new “C” team that will give more opportunity to developing athletes as well as keep pushing the whole team. We have always trained year round as a team and it is awesome to see that team grow and gain even more training partners!
I’m looking forward now to putting more time in on the jumps and continuing to do a lot of biking. Because our team is not planning an early summer Europe camp I’ll have more time at home to do some bike races and an extended break from the usual crazy travel schedule. It has been really nice so far to have a focused group that can train together consistently and I think the results so far have been awesome with many of us being in the best ever shape at this point in the season.
